Here’s a delayed post from last week!
Today is the first of our First Responder Fridays where we will share about the individuals who give a lot of their time and energy to the community we serve and love. On any given Friday, you will be able to “meet” one of our members right here on our Facebook page. This week we are going to meet Darlene. Have a great day everyone!
My name is Darlene Beiler. I first started volunteering with Gordonville EMS in 1996. I was always interested in medical things and started at 43 because I knew a few people here. I will always look back at that as one of the best decisions of my life because Gordonville is where my husband, Michael, and I first met. We were friends for years, then started dating and got married in 2006. We have 2 children, along with many other children we have had the honor to care for over the years. We enjoy cabin trips, hosting people, and always look forward to our annual summer beach trip. Besides EMS, I enjoy lattes, spending time with my family, all things flowers, Penn State football, and running.
I was a volunteer for years and was then offered a paid position. I was a full time employee until I became pregnant. I quit for a few years, and have been back part time since 2012. People have come and gone, but the one thing that remains the same at 43 is the standard of professionalism and care for our community that has been carried on throughout the years. We truly are a second family here, and having a good time is as important as our jobs. It is very true that EMS humor is one of a kind, and the stories of job security never get old. You may want to think twice before joining our lunch discussions.
