This Friday we have Jana! Jana has an extremely compassionate heart for others, especially in their time of need. She is always looking for ways to serve and is a terrific example and encourager to others. Thank you for all that you do Jana!
Hi, I’m Jana! I became an EMT in 2019 graduating from the class hosted here at Gordonville. I volunteer once a week on Sunday nights and am on the weekend rotation. I can honestly say that I didn’t have aspirations to get into emergency services. Though I had incredible respect for first responders, supporting my husband who is a firefighter, I wasn’t sure I could really cut it. However, when encouraged to consider taking the EMT class by a family member/EMT who knew me well, the idea of learning a new skill set did spark interest. I already worked in health care as an occupational therapist; it’s a fulfilling career I consider my passion and professional calling. But, in true midlife crisis fashion, I signed up. I immediately found the training to be valuable and rewarding. I now get to connect and help people in the beginnings of a medical event as an EMT, and also when they are out of the hospital as a homecare therapist. I feel armed during my day job, as a community member, and even as a mother knowing I possess training to think fast, assess what is important, stay calm, and help a person in crisis. I enjoy how every call can teach you something- it builds both confidence and humility. Gordonville Fire and EMS has become a wonderful place that inspires personal growth and community service. The atmosphere is like family- it’s a lot of fun being around such ambitious, genuine, (and often much younger) volunteers. Outside of work and time at the station, I love being with my boys who are 10, 11 and 41 (ha). We enjoy golfing, camping, playing games, and time away at the cabin or beach. I personally enjoy watching sports (go Phillies and Eagles), going for the occasional run or hike, and reading.
